getting things done in by David Allen is a book, audio CD, website, consultancy, lifestyle that almost seems to verge on the cult.
The basic tenements of GTD a pretty simple, and you can find plenty of information about what this means, and how to apply that knowledge from many sources, including obviously the various works of Mr David Allen himself.
I first picked up this book a few years ago, and found myself trying, somewhat half-heartedly, to apply this in my everyday life. Feeling that I needed some extra help I then went out and bought his CD set, which subsequently got zapped into my iTunes, and is a pretty regular “album” and I find myself listening to on long car or plane journeys.
In reality though, even though so much of what he says makes perfect sense, and always found that getting into the groove of applying this religiously in my day-to-day life with a challenge that I never quite mastered.
As with many other GTD fans, I developed an unhealthy obsession with moleskin notebooks, of which I’m on about my 12th copy (the previous 11 lined up neatly on my desk, and to provide interesting, and sometimes useful, reference) I also bought into the Mac and iPhone app OmniFocus, which I am still trying to get into the religious groove with. I’ll re-visit this topic again, as it’s something I can feel the benefit of, but have yet to roll-out to my life holistically.
